University of Wyoming researcher Eric Debenham launches a radiosonde using NCAR's Mobile GPS Loran Atmospheric Sounding System on the first day of BAMEX field operations, conducted near Carlyle, IL, on 20 May 2003. The BAMAX field project examined some of the world's largest thunderstorm complexes for clues to how these storms wreak havoc and how forecasters can better predict their trails of damage.
