At many airports across the United States, the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) system warns of hazardous weather. Shown is the TDWR's Geographic Situation Display, developed at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and used in air traffic control towers. It shows microburst alarms, gust fronts, wind shift predictions, and precipitation. In this image, runways at Denver's former Stapleton International Airport--which was a test site for the display--intersect at the center.
